The II UNAM International Open Chess Tournament 2012 took place between Thursday, November 22 and Sunday, November 25 at the esplanade of the University Museum of Contemporary Art MUAC of the University City, UNAM, Mexico City.

The event was attended by 162 players, including 67 titled players, from 17 different nationalities. The presence of 20 grandmasters guaranteed that the event would feature a lot of fighting for the leading positions.

Russia’s Vladimir Dobrov took second place by scoring 7.5 points in 9 rounds. Four players scored 7 points: Canadian FM Aman Hambleton, Mexican GM Jose Gonzales, Cuban GM Aramis Alvarez and Canadian IM Eric Hansen. Hambleton had the best tiebreaker rating. Complete standings below.
